The 2026 Mandurah Oceania Open commenced on Saturday, 2 May at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre, with the senior divisions opening a weekend of international judo in Western Australia.

Day 1 featured 73 senior athletes from 15 countries, with competitors from across all five continents stepping onto the tatami in Mandurah. The event once again highlighted the growing international profile of the Mandurah Oceania Open, providing athletes with valuable competition opportunities in the Oceania region.

Across the day, athletes contested a strong range of senior men’s and women’s divisions, producing competitive match-ups, exciting ippon judo, and valuable international experience for athletes, coaches and officials.

Great Britain finished on top of the medal table with four gold medals, followed closely by host nation Australia, which secured three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals. Indonesia also enjoyed a strong opening day, finishing third overall with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

In the men’s divisions, gold medals were won by James Zahra of Malta in the men’s under 60kg division, Aiden Moffat of Great Britain in the men’s under 66kg division, Koshei Toyoshima of Australia in the men’s under 73kg division, Keishin Ochi of Australia in the men’s under 81kg division, Elliott Connolly of New Zealand in the men’s under 90kg division, and Joshua Whitehouse of Great Britain in the men’s over 100kg division.

The women’s divisions also delivered a strong international spread of champions. Adena Binte Muhammad Azzad of Singapore claimed gold in the women’s under 48kg division, while Monica Reyes of the United States of America won the women’s under 52kg category. Febriany Dinny of Indonesia took gold in the women’s under 57kg division, Millie Bayliss of Great Britain won the women’s under 63kg division, Holly Devall of Great Britain claimed the women’s under 70kg title, Anita Nourfshan of Australia won the women’s under 78kg division, and Indah Permatasari of Indonesia secured gold in the women’s over 78kg division.

The senior competition brought together athletes from Great Britain, Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malta, the United States of America, Hong Kong China, Georgia, Argentina, the Philippines, Tonga, Macau China, Solomon Islands and Samoa.

The opening day provided a strong start to the 2026 Mandurah Oceania Open and Cup, with a high standard of judo and a positive atmosphere throughout the venue.

The competition continues on Day 2 with the Cadet and Junior divisions at the 2026 Mandurah Oceania Cup.
